With New York sports betting ready to jump into the mobile picture within weeks, there will be local rivalries in the National Hockey League to consider as a big part of the wagering experience.
One of those rivalries will be played Friday night when the New York Rangers (17-5-3) look for their fourth consecutive road road win as they visit the Buffalo Sabres (8-14-3) at KeyBank Center at 7 p.m. (MSG-B, MSG+).
The Rangers are in third place in the Metropolitan Division and sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The Sabres are sixth place (out of eight) in the Atlantic Division and 13th currently in the East.

Encouraging Last 10 for Rangers
The Rangers enter tonight’s contest with an 8-2-0 mark in their past 10 games, but are coming off a 7-3 home loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. That ended New York's seven-game win streak.
Chris Kreider leads New York with 17 goals and Artemi Panarin has dished out 11 assists over the past 10 games.
The Sabres are a dismal 1-8-1 over their past 10 games and lost to the Anaheim Ducks, 2-0, at home Tuesday. Tage Thompson leads Buffalo with 10 goals and six assists and Kyle Okposo has two goals with six assists over the team’s past 10 games.
In their last meeting, New York defeated Buffalo, 5-4, on Nov. 21.
The hope in New York is that you can bet on this rivalry the next time these teams meet on March 27.
Nine mobile sports betting operators were selected on Nov. 8. There still is work to be done but you almost certainly will be able to place a mobile wager before the Super Bowl on Feb. 13.
Other NHL rivalries within the Empire State pending launch include: Rangers vs. New York Islanders (April 1, April 28); and Islanders vs. Sabres (April 23).
