Finally, Mobile New York Sports Betting Market Launches with Approved Sportsbooks

Welcome to the world of mobile New York sports betting!

It’s here, at last.

Just after 9 a.m. ET today, New Yorkers had the first opportunity to place mobile wagers over four sports betting platforms (BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings and FanDuel).

Those four operators cleared the statutory hurdles to be approved to operate by the New York State Gaming Commission in an announcement made Thursday.

The dawn of a new age in the largest legalized online sports betting market in the nation has begun.

And there are promotions for new bettors in New York. Among them:

  • At Caesars Sportsbook New York, new users receive a free bet of $300 and first-deposit match of up to $3,000. And there is also a promo for an NBA jersey.
  • At DraftKings New York, new bettors can get a 20% welcome match deposit bonus worth up to $1,000.
  • FanDuel New York is offering a risk-free first bet of $1,000 for new bettors in the state.

Suddenly, It Was Go Time

It was widely expected that mobile sports wagering would not begin until right before the Super Bowl on Feb. 13. Optimists pointed at the Jan. 15 start of the NFL playoffs as a starting point.

But Thursday’s announcement that mobile betting would begin more than a month before the Super Bowl was a shocker.

Coming Attractions to NY Sports Betting

New York bettors are still awaiting on five other mobile sports betting apps to launch, as nine operators were granted licenses on Nov. 8. The remaining five are BetMGM NY, Bally Bet, WynnBET NY, Resorts World and PointsBet.

All five are continuing to work toward meeting statutory and regulatory requirements. Once those requirements are met, the NYGSC will approve them to launch on a rolling basis.
