New York sports betting posted its lowest total monthly handle and total Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for the month of April since its historic launch on Jan. 8, based on official figures released by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) on Monday.

Here are three takeaways from April’s monthly report:

Total Monthly Handle, GGR Lowest Since Launch

April mobile sports betting handle in the state posted at $1.39 billion, down 15.1% from March’s $1.64 billion and down $278.9 million from the state’s top month of January ($1.67 billion), marking the lowest month since launch.

FanDuel Stays on Top in Both Monthly Handle, GGR

FanDuel Sportsbook New York continues to be tops in the state among the eight mobile sportsbooks that are currently live with an April handle of $599.49 million and a GGR of $63.59 million.

The rest of the top five include: DraftKings Sportsbook New York ($327.05 million), Caesars Sportsbook New York ($215.75 million), BetMGM Sportsbook New York ($142.16 million) and PointsBet Sportsbook New York ($53.19 million).

The remaining four in GGR include DraftKings ($19.64 million), Caesars NY ($11.8 million), BetMGM ($4.98 million) and BetRivers ($1.8 million).

Baseball, Major Events Could See Numbers Rise Moving Forward

Since starting the regular season on April 7-8, the New York Mets and New York Yankees have the best records in Major League Baseball and lead their leagues,  respectively.

With both teams having great starts, more action and opportunities will be there for baseball bettors moving forward.

Other major events such as the NBA Playoffs, NHL Playoffs (New York Rangers), PGA Championship, French Open tennis and Indianapolis 500 all are scattered across the calendar for May, which will lead us to the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Plus, the release of the NFL regular season schedule in its entirety on Thursday will bring about initial points spreads and future odds from mobile sportsbooks across the state, so bettors can start thinking NFL just in time for summer.
