Some New York Betting Odds for Fans Jonesing for Baseball
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

As Major League Baseball owners and the Major League Baseball Players Association continue to meet and work out a deal to end the lockout, the sports betting world is moving forward with updated future odds for the league’s divisional and World Series winners.

On Thursday, BetMGM New York released updated odds for all 30 teams, highlighted by the New York Mets and New York Yankees on top of several betting categories.

This will be the first season in which fans have the option of placing a mobile bet on their favorite baseball team since the debut on Jan. 8. If the season ever starts, of course.

Meet the Mets

The Metropolitans opened the futures market to win the World Series at +2000. Those odds since have dropped to +1100. The Mets are +140 to win the NL East and +500 to win the National League.

The Mets made several key offseason acquisitions, highlighted by the signing of 37-year-old righthander and perennial Cy Young candidate Max Scherzer to a three-year contract. The addition of Scherzer with the game’s best pitcher, Jason DeGrom, make for a very formidable 1-2 duo on the mound.

Scherzer finished second among National League pitchers in ERA (2.46), led the NL in WHIP (0.864) and finished fourth in strikeouts-per-nine innings (11.7).

The Mets, who have the highest ticket percentage on BetMGM at 17.3%, also signed outfielder Starling Marte, infielder Eduardo Escobar and outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha to solidify their lineup and depth, which already features shortstop Francisco Lindor and slugger Pete Alonso.

The Mets also hold the highest handle percentage at 24% to win the Fall Classic and have the biggest liability for BetMGM.

To win the National League pennant, the Mets lead in all three categories: 33.1% (highest ticket percentage), 33.5% (highest handle percentage) and as the biggest liability for BetMGM.

Winning the NL East Division, the Mets lead in all the above-mentioned categories.

Even When Quiet, Yankees Are the Yankees

The New York Yankees are coming off a rather lackluster season by their standards and a rather quiet off-season regarding new acquisitions. Back in November, they did re-sign catcher Gary Sanchez, righthanded pitcher Domingo German and infielder Gio Urshela.

But the Yankees always will be in the chase for postseason play, because, well, they are the Yankees.

The Bronx Bombers are tied with the Mets and Chicago White Sox with the shortest World Series odds at +1100. They are +550 to win the AL and +200 to take the AL East.

BetMGM bettors think so as well, as the Bronx Bombers come in at 11.5% among bettors who hold tickets to win the World Series. They also have the highest handle percentage at 17.8% and rank among the top three for the mobile betting platform in biggest liability.

To win the American League pennant, the Yankees are at 18.8% in highest ticket percentage among BetMGM bettors and are among the top three in highest handle percentage to win the AL East Division.
