New York City FC Continues MLS Title Defense in Montreal
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

With all the hoopla surrounding the New York Yankees returning home in the American League Championship Series this weekend, another New York team is on the minds of the New York sports betting public.

New York City FC, the defending MLS champion, travels across the Northern border Sunday to face the second seed, the Montreal Impact, in the Eastern Conference semifinals (ESPN, fuboTV, 1 p.m.).

The winner advances to the Eastern Conference Finals and will visit the league’s top-seeded team, the Philadelphia Union, Oct. 30 (ABC, fuboTV, 4 p,.m.).

The Union shut out FC Cincinnati, 1-0, on Thursday to advance to the final.

New York City FC (16-11-7) beat Miami, 3-0, in its last playoff game at Citi Field. The squad got goals from Gabriel Pereira dos Santos. Max Santos and Heber in the win.

Valentin Castellanos led NYCFC with 16 goals during the regular season.

New York Dominance Not Showing at Sportsbooks

New York is 9-2-5 all-time against Montreal and is 2-0-1 in its last three, including a scoreless tie in their last meeting on the road back on July 30.

NYCFC has won four consecutive games, scoring 10 goals during that span, and is also unbeaten in its last four road playoff games, highlighted by three penalty shoot-outs in which the team posted a positive 2-1 ledger.

As a matter of fact, since the elimination of the breakaway shootout 22 years ago (2000), there have only been two longer road unbeaten runs in the playoffs.

With all of that said, New York sports apps have New York FC an underdog in Sunday’s matchup.

As of Friday morning, DraftKings NY has NYCFC as an underdog at +250to win the game, with Montreal as a slight favorite at +100. A draw in regulation is at +245.

To advance in the playoffs, the Impact is a solid -175 favorite, while NYCFC is listed at +140.

At Caesars NY, NYCFC is listed at +260 to win the game, while Montreal is at +104. A draw in regulation is similar to DraftKings at +240.

Also, current future odds at Caesars to win this year’s MLS Cup: NYCFC +1000 with Montreal at +700. The two favorites: Los Angeles FC (LAFC) at +110 and the Union at +220. Back at midseason, NYCFC was the second-best bet to win the MLS.
