The answer to the question won’t come magically when New York sports betting apps soon come in to play: What exactly do I make of my local team when considering a wager?
Case in point: More than a week ago, the New York Giants and Jets looked hopelessly lost and were making moves to adjust. They still are at the bottom of their divisions, but both teams suddenly find themselves coming off of wins last week.
Can the Giants and Jets make it two in a row this Sunday?
That’s what New York bettors must ponder.
The Giants (4-7), coming off a 13-7 home win over the Philadelphia Eagles, visit the red-hot Miami Dolphins (5-7) at 1 p.m. on CBS.
The Jets (3-8), following a 21-14 road win against the Houston Texans last week, host the Eagles (5-7) on Fox at 1 p.m.
Friday at BETMGM NY, the Dolphins are a 4-point and -190 moneyline favorite with an over/under total points of 40.5. The Giants are a +160 moneyline underdog. DraftKings NY has the Dolphins as a 6-point favorite and -255 on the moneyline. You can get the Giants at +205 on the moneyline and the over/under is 40.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia is a 6.5-point and -275 moneyline favorite on BetMGM with an over/under of 45. The Jets are a +225 moneyline underdog. DraftKings has the Eagles as a 7-point and -300 moneyline favorite. The Jets are +235 on the moneyline and the over/under is 44.5.
Dissecting Giants-Dolphins
The Dolphins have allowed 17 points or fewer in each game of their four-win streak.
The Giants’ win over the Eagles, which came down to the last play, was their second straight in the NFC East rivalry after New York lost eight in a row. The Giants forced four turnovers in the win, including three interceptions of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Miami used a 14-point second quarter and a 12-0 second half to defeat the Carolina Panthers, 33-10, at home last Sunday.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 27 of 31 passes for 230 yards and one touchdown. Running back Myles Gaskin had two rushing TDs and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (nine receptions, 137 yards) added one. Miami is a perfect 18-0 in games when scoring 30+ points since 2015.
NewYorkBets.com prediction: Many Giants fans will attend the game in Miami, but it won’t be enough as Tagovailoa continues his progression and success. With the win, Miami will enter a bye week and then hosts a hated rival, the Jets, with a chance to get to .500 at 7-7. Dolphins 27, Giants 17.
Wilson Back Home for Jets
Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson came back off injury and completed 14 of 24 passes for 145 yards with no passing TDs and an interception for the Jets in last week’s win. Wilson ran for a TD, as did running back Austin Walter.
The Eagles, a long shot for an NFC wild-card playoff spot, are 11-0 all-time versus the Jets. That is the most wins without a loss in any all-time series in the NFL.
Hurts must improve his passing game and his wide receivers must step up to keep pace. The Eagles scored just one TD against the Giants and still had an opportunity to win the game at the end.
NewYorkBets.com prediction: If there is ever a game in which the Eagles can cure what ails them, it’s this one. The Eagles can get better connection between Hurts and his receivers and the defense finally could get to the quarterback. Wilson comes back home for his first game since the injury. The game will be closer than people expect, but the Eagles get it done. Eagles 34, Jets 20.
NY Sports Betting Apps Will At Least Have Bills
The state of New York has every intention to have mobile sports apps and operators up and going for the NFL playoffs. If not by the then, almost certainly by the Super Bowl on Feb. 13.
The Giants and Jets will be rethinking and possibly retooling in January. The only other team in the state, the Buffalo Bills should be a live opportunity for New York bettors.
The Bills can go a long way in wrapping up solid playoff position and get a leg up in the AFC East when they host the New England Patriots on Monday night. Buffalo is a 3-point favorite on DraftKings and -140 on the moneyline.
The Empire State’s providers and operators, as decided on Nov. 8, are: FanDuel NY, DraftKingsNY, BetMGM NY, Bally Bet, Rush Street Interactive (parent company of BetRivers), Caesars, WynnBET, PointsBet and Resorts World.
