With nine live mobile New York sports betting providers currently operational, the ability for customers to fund their accounts is crucial to the quality of their experience.
An option for help is on the way.
The Blackhawk Network, based in Pleasanton, Calif., announced Friday it has received approval to provide its payments and sports betting gift card services in New York and Louisiana.
The company was approved by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC).
More About Blackhawk’s Footprint
The company’s payment/gift card services can now be accessed in 10 states with New York and Louisiana added. The others are Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
Introduced two years ago, the company’s gift card – Game On – lets customers easily add funds to their accounts with select sports betting operators. The cards are now approved for sale at retailers in both New York and Louisiana. Cards can be purchased as an e-gift for purchase on the company website, GetGameOn.com.
This technology will provide a new way for customers with NY betting apps to deposit money, other than the traditional methods of bank accounts, online banking or credit/debit cards.
“As a branded payments provider for many top retailers, we’re bullish about providing our partners with the most compelling and on-trend gift card content, which now includes our Game On cards and other single-branded sports betting products,” Steve Dekker, managing director of Americas at Blackhawk Network, said in a news release.
“As New York, Louisiana, and other states upon approval continue growth in the gaming category, we’re pleased to be able to provide retailers with another option for players to spend, budget and also gift the entertainment of sports betting.”
Players can use the money that is on a Game On card to fund their accounts with several operators, including FanDuel Sportsbook New York, DraftKings Sportsbook New York, BetRivers Sportsbook New York and BetMGM Sportsbook NewYork.
Options vary state by state.
With the NFL opening, even for the preseason, the new way of depositing will be a welcome sight for operators.
This will be the first full season of NFL betting in New York, since mobile wagering only started this January in the state.
Legalized sports betting debuted with four providers during NFL Wild Card Weekend on Jan. 8.
