With one month remaining until the New Year and with a slew of New York sports betting app options on the verge of launching, there will be plenty of action to dive into for the betting public.
We near the anticipated opening of mobile sports wagering coming to New York, almost certainly before the Super Bowl, so it seems to be a good time to look at how the future lines have evolved.
Let’s focus here on the NBA, where perennial all-star Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets are holding their own, even without starting point guard Kyrie Irving.
With a one-game lead in the Eastern Conference over the Miami Heat (13-7) and Washington Wizards (13-7), the Brooklyn Nets (14-6) will host the rival New York Knicks (11-9) on Tuesday at 7:30 on TNT.
NewYorkBets.com checked in with two mobile sports betting platforms to see how their odds in a variety of categories have held up since the preseason.
Before the season, the Nets were at +200 to win the NBA title and are currently at +240 on Draft Kings NY. A slight jump also has occurred on the Nets’ odds to capture the Eastern Conference title: currently at +120, which is up from +100 in the preseason.
To capture the Atlantic Division, the Nets have skyrocketed from -280 in the preseason to -500 currently.
Odds on NY Sports Betting Apps Would Be on Move for Nets Stars
Without Irving in the mix, two of the Nets' premier players – Durant and James Harden – also have seen movement in Most Valuable Player betting.
Durant started the preseason at +700 to capture the award and has dropped to +500 currently. Harden was a whopping +2000 in the preseason and now has shot up to +4000.
In 19 games this season, Durant is averaging 28.6 points per game, the most since he averaged 32 ppg. with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013-14. In just 20 games played this season, Harden is averaging 20.3 ppg., his lowest since 16.8 ppg. with the Thunder in 2011-12.
BetMGM NY had the Nets at -125 to win the Eastern Conference crown, but has moved back down to a much more favorable +130, which is good news for bettors who like this team.
Currently, the Nets are the favorite on BetMGM to win the NBA title, going from +225 preseason to +260 with 4.6% of the tickets. The Golden State Warriors are second best at +600, dropping from +1200 preseason (17.1% of tickets).
BetMGM has similar odds as DraftKings for Durant to win the league MVP (+700 preseason to +500, 7.5% of tickets) and Harden opened at +2500 preseason and is now +4000 (2.5% of tickets).
Two other Nets are on the board for future awards with head coach Steve Nash to take home Coach of the Year honors (+850 preseason to +1600, 1.4% of tickets) and guard Patty Mills is on the board for the Sixth Man of the Year award (+1100 opening odds to +5000, 5.1% of tickets).
