BetMGM emanates from a partnership between MGM Resorts International and Entain. BetMGM has exclusive access to all of MGM’s U.S. land-based and online sports betting and online gaming businesses. It also is a leader in major tournament poker.
Early in November, BetMGM secured its roots in the Empire State by announcing a multi-year marketing agreement with Madison Square Garden. The partnership names BetMGM an official sports betting partner of the Garden as well as the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.
When This All Took Off
The NYSGC selected nine companies to be mobile providers and operators in the state on Nov. 8.
BetMGM was on that list, along with Caesars Sportsbook New York, DraftKings New York, FanDuel New York, Rush Street Interactive (parent company of BetRivers New York), WynnBET New York, PointsBet New York, BallyBet New York and Resorts World New York.
BetMGM will enter the fray nine days after four other operators were selected to start on Saturday, Jan. 8.
BetMGM also made news this week when it announced it was building on an already established partnership with the New York Jets on a Jets-branded Slingo casino game.
New York Now No. 1 in Mobile
For quite a while, the state of New York has been considered the crown jewel nationally when it comes to mobile sports wagering.
Even though the Empire State is only fourth nationally in population (19.3 million), it is No. 1 among states that currently permit mobile betting. No. 1 California (39.6 million) and No. 2 Texas (29.7 million) do not have any form of sports betting and is not on target until 2023 at the earliest.
No. 3 Florida (21.9 million) also has no sports betting right now. The state has been tangled in legal challenges after previously having only one sportsbook run by the Seminole Tribe (Hard Rock Sportsbook).
