The 2022 NBA Draft is just hours away. So, before the Orlando Magic make the No. 1 draft selection at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, letβs take a look at updated NBA future New York sports betting odds on both New York teams.
NBA championship futures were first posted by BetMGM Sportsbook New York after the Golden State Warriors won the 2021-2022 Finals in six games over the Boston Celtics on June 16.
Oddsmakers Still Fairly High on Nets
The Brooklyn Nets finished a disappointing 44-38, seventh in the Eastern Conference. Even more shocking was being swept by the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.
The Nets, who chose to defer the option on a first-round draft pick from Philadelphia, have no picks tonight.
Brooklyn opened at +700 on BetMGM last week. That number has gone up to +750, more than likely due to news that Kyrie Irving might be seeking a trade. The +750 line ties Brooklyn with the Los Angeles Clippers for fourth place among favorites to win the 2023 NBA title, behind the Warriors (+500), Celtics (+650) and Milwaukee Bucks (+700). A strong statement about a team that came up so small this past season.
A closer look at the BetMGM odds:
Not nearly as bullish as FanDuel Sportsbook New York, which has the Nets, amazingly, tied for second at +600, with the Celtics and Bucks. FanDuel has the Warriors as a strong bet to defend at +550.
The Nets will have New York sports betting apps holding fire as bettors wonder: Will Kyrie Irving stay or go? That move could determine the future of star teammate Kevin Durant. And, honestly, who really knows what the addition of Ben Simmons will mean?
And What About the Knicks?
The New York Knicks missed the playoffs after showing so much promise in making the postseason the year before. They finished 37-45, 11th in the Eastern Conference.
The Knicks have the No. 11 and No. 42 picks in the draft.
The Knicks opened at +25000 at BetMGM to win the NBA Championship, with 2.9% of the tickets held and just 0.5% of the handle.
FanDuel has the Knicks at +18000, which ranks 22nd in the 30-team league.
After a promising 2020-21 season, the Knicks came back to earth in 2021-22 and will look to solidify either the point guard and center positions in the NBA Draft and look for some scoring help tonight or in the offseason.
Odds for League MVP
As it currently stands, you cannot bet on awards in New York sports betting.
It is interesting to look at the MVP future odds of FanDuel, though.
The leading operator by handle by far in the state, FanDuel has the Netsβ Durant listed at fourth among favorites at +1000, behind Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks (+500), Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers (+550) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (+600).
The reigning MVP, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, is fifth at +1200.
