Are Bills’ Off-Season Tweaks Helping Their Super Bowl Chances?

Are Bills’ Off-Season Tweaks Helping Their Super Bowl Chances?
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

The Buffalo Bills have had a relatively quiet offseason compared to the other teams in the AFC East. Their biggest loss was linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who got a monster contract from the Chicago Bears in free agency.

However, the Bills did make a few need adjustments to their roster over the last few weeks, adding two quality guards. Plus, they’ve added the most dynamic pass catching tight end in the 2023 NFL Draft (Dalton Kincaid) to play in the slot for them this season. While fans and New York sports betting might not feel these are huge moves on paper, the Bills didn’t need to make any big splashes to be among the top Super Bowl contenders during the 2023-2024 season.

NewYorkBets.com – your source for the best NY sportsbook promos – looks at how the Bills stack up compared to the other top teams in the NFL.

Have they done enough this offseason with their roster to improve their odds to win a Super Bowl?

Here is a look at how we assessed Buffalo’s draft needs before the draft.

And here is an overview of the Bills’ offseason:

Buffalo Bills 2023 Super Bowl Odds

Here are the Bills Super Bowl odds via BetMGM NY over the last few months:

Opening LineBefore Free Agency(3/8)Before NFL Draft(4/12)After NFL Draft(5/8)
+900+850+850+900

The Super Bowl odds have been static for the most part for Bills over the last few months. They have fluctuated some, but not a ton throughout the offseason. The Bills have the third-best odds to win the Super Bowl, tied with the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers. There just hasn’t been a lot of movement on their Super Bowl odds despite a strong draft class and a few under-the-radar free-agent signings.

Buffalo Bills 2023 AFC South Odds

But what about in the division? Have the Bills done enough to remain the favorites in the AFC East? Let’s look at the odds for the Buffalo Bills to win the AFC East during the 2023-2024 season to see if they have increased or decreased following the NFL Draft, again via BetMGM:

Opening LineBefore Draft (4/25)After Draft (5/8)
+100+130+135

As you can see, the odds for the Bills to win the division have steadily decreased over the last few months. That likely has less to do with what they’ve done in free agency and the draft, but more to do with what the Jets (Aaron Rodgers) and the Dolphins (Jalen Ramsey) have done this offseason. The Bills are still a healthy favorite to win the AFC East, but the Jets and the Dolphins are both closing in.

Marcus’s Verdict

The AFC East figures to be the best division in the NFL this season as all four teams could make the playoffs. But the Bills are still the top team in the division as they have the most talent on both sides of the ball.

As long as Josh Allen can stay healthy, the Bills should easily win 11 games or more again this season. And that makes them a great bet not only to win the division, but to potentially come out of the AFC and win the Super Bowl. Don’t be afraid of betting on the Bills at +900 to win the Super Bowl as they are clearly one of the top four teams in the NFL going into the start of the season.
