Fanduel Pros & Cons
✔️ Same Game Parlay has countless options
❌ Fewer deposit options than other operators
✔️ Some great football lines
❌ Customer support leaves a lot to be desired
✔️ Ability to livestream many different events
❌ Can be hard to get favorable basketball odds
FanDuel Sportsbook New York Great For:
What stood out first with NY FanDuel was simply the number of sports wagering options available in their Same-Game Parlay feature. If you can think of it, you can probably lay money down on it. A single pro basketball game offers as many as fifty different game conditions you can turn into parlay legs. Madness in the best way.
The next piece of the puzzle we appreciated was the risk-free first bet up to $1,000. If you're expecting to use FanDuel New York as your lone or primary online sportsbook, this is obviously a great chance to take a big swing.
Also, it's great to be able to keep tabs on events through their livestreams. The fact that they have the streaming deal with the NHL makes FanDuel a betting destination for Islanders, Sabres and Rangers fans alike. And more niche betting markets are well-served by the streaming feature in ways you can't get with other operators. Bet online on professional table tennis from Russia, fire up the stream and watch 'em go.

FanDuel New York got into the mobile wagering business through a Daily Fantasy Sports game, and launched their online sportsbook in 2018. They're majority-owned by Flutter Entertainment, which is also affiliated with gambling brands such as BetFair, Pokerstars, and Fox Bet. Additionally, New York FanDuel features an online casino product, as well as a separate online gambling experience built around horse racing. They also host a retail sportsbook in the Meadowlands in New Jersey, just outside the football stadium.
NY Sports to Wager On With FanDuel
FanDuel Sportsbook NY offers all sorts of sports wagers to satisfy whatever kind of bet you'd care to make. Depending on the sports betting market, you can get action on the spread, the moneyline and the totals. You'll also be able to make plenty of different kinds of prop bets, futures, and parlays, including their trademark Same Game Parlay. And don't worry if you're new to this, we'll get into what all that means.
As far as what sports are available, all the biggest games in the country are available and so many more. FanDuel New York app lets you bet on the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and college sports for starters. You'll also be able to bet on golf, tennis, boxing, MMA, and auto racing. It doesn't stop there either. On an average day you can bet on hundreds of games in sports leagues from all over the world.
Sounds great, right? What's the catch? The catch is that the laws and regulations issued by the New York State Gaming Commission restrict a small part of the college sports betting action. To be specific, if you're using a mobile sports betting app or retail sportsbook in New York, you're not allowed to bet on a college sports team based in New York.
One of the most important factors in deciding where to take your online sports betting dollar is what the odds look like. Your ability to score better odds won't change the complexion of the game, but it can make a real difference in your payout when you win. We found FanDuel consistently having odds that compared well to the other big operators, and giving the best available odds on some of the most popular wagers. Specifically, FanDuel New York lines on pro and college football frequently line up as the best action. It's worth noting that when it comes to NHL and MLB odds, FanDuel NY occasionally has the best lines, but no more or less often than a lot of the other places. And you're more likely to find better odds at other places if basketball is your preferred game. Not to say there aren't opportunities, but they're a little harder to come by.
Types Of Sports Bet By Popularity
FanDuel Sportsbook New York isn't alone in its attempts to capture a huge piece of the online sports betting pie, so its sure to bring the most popular ways to bet in the coming months. Casual bettors and hardcore gambling experts alike frequent the straight bets on the spreads, moneylines and totals. There's other action to be found too, and here's how it all breaks down.
Betting the point spread is wagering on the margin of victory between the winner and loser. For example, FanDuel recently gave sports bettors the New York Jets a +2.5 spread for a game against the Texans, so all they had to do to cover the spread was not lose by 3 or more points. Because they were the underdog, they easily covered the spread by winning the game by 7. Bets on the point spread are the most popular way to wagers on football and basketball.
The total line, also called the over/under is wagering on the combined number of points scored by both teams. New York FanDuel listed their total for that Jets/Texans game as 44.5. The Jets won 21-14, a total of 35 points, so betting the under was the right call there.
Pick a winner, it's as simple as that. The plus sign tells you the underdog, the minus sign the favorite, and the bigger the number, the greater the odds. The Week 12 game between the New York Giants and the Eagles had the Giants at (+162), which would have paid a winning $100 bet a total of $262 (The $100 stake plus $162). Philadelphia, at (-194) would have required a $194 bet to bring in winnings of $100 on top of the original stake. It also would have required the Eagles to have won the game, but that's another story. Moneylines are one of the most popular ways to bet on hockey and baseball.
This is more than one bet, tied together to make the odds longer and bring a bigger return on a win. Winning bets of $50 each on the Buffalo Sabres at (+260) against the Panthers and the New York Islanders at (-142) against San Jose would bring back a total of $265.21, which isn't half bad, really. But those bets parlayed bring odds of (+513), so that same $100 gives a total payout of $613.52, which leading math experts agree is more than $265.21. The catch is every one of your picks has to hit or it's a total loss.
This is a long range bet on an event that's a little ways down the road. If you think Scherzer was the missing piece and the Mets are going to go all the way in 2022, FanDuel New York will let you place a bet on that when they launch.
Prop bets are wagers on something other than the final outcome of a certain event. A fan of the New York Knicks could, for instance, bet on Julius Randle getting a triple-double, the over/under on the number of assists Alec Burks records, or which team will be the first to 20 points.
Great Betting Features On The FanDuel Sportsbook in New York
Having been a Daily Fantasy Sports operator first, New York FanDuel truly understands the landscape of what the online sports betting customer is looking for. And they do a bang-up job of catering to the needs of casual bettors and serious gamblers alike.
FanDuel Point Spreads
As mentioned above, FanDuel NY offers point spreads that are especially competitive in football markets (pro and college). But with bets on the spread as common as they are across sports, FanDuel offers point spreads on the major American sports as well as rugby, darts, netball, pool, soccer, tennis, and more.
FanDuel Live Betting
New York sports bettors will be able to enjoy the ability to bet on games in progress through FanDuel. Fans can watch and play along, seeing the betting lines move with the corresponding on-field action and, depending on the sport, getting to bet on the next play. Though this is a common feature across many operators, what sets FanDuel New York apart here is the ability for players to watch the action unfold by livestreaming events through their platform, including NHL games.
FanDuel Bet Cash Out Option
The popular Cash Out feature is also found on FanDuel NY app, allowing users to settle sports bets early, prior to the end of the sporting event. This is a great way to lock in your profits or cut your losses depending on how your wagers are going.
FanDuel Odds Boosts
An Odds Boost is exactly what it sounds like. The operator moves the betting odds in favor of the player. For instance, FanDuel offered a bet for the Cowboys to cover a -2.5 spread against the Saints. Originally offered at (-230), a win on a $100 bet would return $143.48. FanDuel's odds boost brought the odds to (+100) which by now you know would bring in $200 on a win. Most of the legal online sports betting operators offer some form of odds boost, but FanDuel makes their boosts easy to find and clearly shows how big an advantage is being offered.
Same Game Parlays at FanDuel
FanDuel went ahead and trademarked the term Same Game Parlay, which should tell you how seriously they take this aspect of their operation. A Same Game Parlay on a single NFL game gives sports bettors as many as fifty options for combining into a parlay. Not every option is compatible with every other, but there is a truly staggering amount of ways to build your Same Game Parlay.
A feature you'll find on FanDuel Sportsbook that you won't find at every operator is the availability of free to play games and contests that can pay off with site credits to make your bankroll ever bigger. With nothing to lose, you don't even need to know the basics of hockey to make a series of picks around a showdown between the New York Rangers and the Flyers. So if you use FanDuel, be sure to get in on the free Pick 'Em, Hi Lo and Over Under games they offer.
FanDuel Sports Streaming
FanDuel also features the ability to live stream certain sporting events through their own video player. They launched their livestream technology in 2019 with tennis matches and European soccer and later became the first sportsbook operator to stream regular season NHL games.
How To Bet At FanDuel
It's really easy to set up your FanDuel Sportsbook account. All you need to do is head over to their website or download their app and click "Join Now". You'll enter your email, pick a username and a password, and enter a promo code if you got one. Depending on the regulations set up by the state of New York, you may need to verify your identity, and be prepared to verify before you're allowed to withdraw any winnings.
Just note this is for new users only. If you're already using their Daily Fantasy product, all you have to do is log in and you'll have access to the sportsbook as well.
FanDuel Sportsbook Payment Options
FanDuel is set up to move money quickly into and out of the accounts of online sports betting enthusiasts. And they make it easy to bankroll your account and slightly less easy to get your winnings out, as is the custom. And oddly enough, they offer fewer bankrolling options than most other operators. Let's break it down.
Deposit Methods Accepted
Adding to your bankroll is easy, but there are a couple hoops to jump through the first time. It's nothing particularly taxing, just a matter of confirming your identity and your address. After that it's just a matter of entering the amount and choosing your method of payment. You can use the following options:
Credit Cards - MasterCard or Visa
Pre-Paid Gift Cards*
FanDuel notes that some banks will restrict online transactions or prohibit gift card payments to gambling operators.
Withdrawing money from your FanDuel account works in a similar way to depositing. It's important to keep in mind that using any of their electronic withdrawal methods requires an earlier deposit made with that method. Withdrawals through PayPal and Venmo or PrePaid Cards can take 48 hours to be approved. Online banking withdrawals can take 3 to 5 business days, and if you ask for a paper check, you're looking at a 7-10 business day wait there.
FanDuel Contests and Promotions
Understand that any operator will try to keep you coming back, and they'll build promotions and deals to that end. FanDuel at any given moment has tabs for free games, promos and odds boosts, as well as multiple kinds of contests through their Daily Fantasy portal. Here are just a few of the options you can expect this time of year.
⚾️ $5 Dinger Days
Place a Pre-Live, Straight, $25+ "To Hit a Home Run" Wager on an MLB Game and get a $5 bonus in free bets for each home run both teams hit in the game (max $25), win or lose.
✔️ Over | Under
Choose the over/under on a series of prop bets around a single basketball game in another free game.
🏀 No Sweat Same Game Parlay
Place a 3+ Leg SGP or SGP+ on an NBA Playoff game and if your bet loses, get a refund in free bets (max $20). One eligible wager per person per "Week" (Saturday through Friday)
⚽️ Risk-Free Soccer Same Game Parlay
Wager on a parlay with three or more legs on a single soccer game. If your bet loses, get your stake back in site credit.
Daily Odds Boosts
You can also anticipate odds boosts around some of the biggest sports on a daily basis, made easy to find and understand. At FanDuel these are generally prop bets or pre-made parlays (ex. Rangers and Sabres win on the same night, or the Brooklyn Nets win and Durant notches a Double Double).
Multi-Sport Parlay Insurance
This one's a lot of fun. Parlays are great, and the Multi-Sport Parlay Insurance option cuts the risk considerably. At FanDuel it breaks down this way. Build a parlay with five or more legs where each leg has odds of (-200) or longer. They can be any market in any sport as long as they fall under that odds requirement.
If you win, splendid, well done. If all your legs hit except one, you get your money back up to $25. Not so bad, eh?
FanDuel FanFest is a series of events in states where FanDuel sports betting is up and running. The FanFests feature sports legends holding Q&As, games where you can win prizes, free bets, refreshments and live music from such artists as The Chainsmokers and Nelly.
Will FanDuel NY Offer A Rewards Program
FanDuel currently offers a rewards program through their Daily Fantasy program, but not through their online sportsbooks. This could change as they enter the sports betting market as the competition will be fierce to get and keep regular players. For now they're content to offer sports wagering enthusiasts a wide array of promos around their highest volume games.
Okay, but what are FanDuel Points? In the Daily Fantasy piece of FanDuel, players earn 5 FanDuel Points for every $1 spent to enter a paid Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) contest. The points are tracked month-to-month for a tiered system of perks within the DFS product. In theory it shouldn't be too hard to implement something similar inside their sportsbook product, and it may be a smart move for them to do so, as some of their bigger competitors have rewards plans in operation already.
Sportsbook User Experience
Getting around the various online sportsbooks can be tricky depending on the operator, but the FanDuel sportsbook app and websites make it easy make the sports wagers you want.
FanDuel delivers a comprehensive NY sports betting app experience through their web platform for their current areas and coming soon to New York.
The bet slip itself populates quickly, and the look of the site itself isn't thrilling, but it's clean and gives you what you need. It's also a responsive site when it comes to changing the size of the window. Even though that's industry standard, it can be hard to do well on such a busy site, and FanDuel nails it here as well.

FanDuel New York App
The FanDuel sports betting app looks like a smaller version of the website and is similarly easy to get around. Though the layout is different by necessity, you can access all the same features on the tablet or phone experiences as you can on the web platform. And in our experience, the app reacts as quickly as the website, and responds to input quickly and without any trouble. Not every operator has a tablet-optimized app, but FanDuel's is great, combining the convenience of the phone version with the wide-ranging interface of the web platform. The FanDuel Sportsbook app
As you'd expect, the layout of the web version of FanDuel is a more thorough experience than the sportsbook app.
When your window is maximized, on the FanDuel Sportsbook homepage, you can see clearly all the betting markets on the left, the lines you're considering right down the middle, and your bet slip pinned on the right.
The live bets, promos and odds boosts are easy to access and a click can bring you to their other products if those are available where you play.
The only real problem we had was having to hunt for the link to their customer support options. If you need it, it's on the left under the list of all the sports they serve, but would have been better served to have had a prime spot up top. We've seen other web portals that were easier to customize as well, but these are minor quibbles.
Keeping your FanDuel account secure is a two-way street, and they hold up their end with secure connections on all their interfaces as well of their use of payment security partners. Any credit card information never reaches FanDuel servers and isn't stored by their computers.
As a FanDuel user, you can keep your account protected by setting up 2 Factor Authentication, using a strong password that you don't use anywhere else, and changing that password frequently.
FanDuel Sportsbook And Horse Racing
The New York State Gaming Commission has not explicitly provided for a legal online betting on horse racing. There is proposed legislature on the books in the State Senate that would being online betting on horse racing into the New York sports betting legal fold. A similar law is already on the books in Ohio. FanDuel keeps their sportsbook and racebook separate, but if this bill passes, expect FanDuel to get into the mobile betting on horse racing action as well.
FanDuel New York Retail Locations
In addition to the online sports betting action, FanDuel is the retail sportsbook operator at the Tioga Downs Casino Resort in Nichols, New York - just off the Southern Tier Expressway, roughly halfway between Elmira and Binghamton. Unlike the online sports betting action that's coming to New York, this operation is in full swing with commercial casinos throughout the state. So if you're in the Southern Tier, or can get there, you may find it valuable to swing through Nichols and get a piece of the action before the rollout of the mobile betting platforms in New York.
Responsible Sports Betting Methods
It's crucial to ensure that your online sports betting experience is handled safely and responsibly. FanDuel's sportsbook app allows you to self-impose limits on deposits and wagers over the course of a day, week or month.
Your FanDuel Sportsbook New York account is also set up with a "Timeout" option if you need to cool yourself off for any period of time between 1 day and 1 year. There is also a "Self-Exclusion" period available (3, 6 or 12 months) and during either of those options, your account will be disabled.
And should that not be enough, you can contact customer support to permanently close your account.
Customer Support Methods
The New York FanDuel app has multiple options for customers to take advantage of if they need support. Clicking on the Support links bring you to a menu of FAQs and articles about common problems. Sounds good, but it's a complicated web of questions and answers about all of their products and you can't be sure if you're reading about a sportsbook issue or something that could go wrong on the daily fantasy sports side of things, or if one answer applies to both. The search tool also leaves a lot to be desired, and we could only find the FAQ files in English.
There's also a live chat tool to contact a rep, but that isn't staffed 24-7. This leaves the phone number and the email. The phones are staffed from 9am to 8pm (New York time) and the tool invites you to leave your info and await a callback. Both the phone and email response times can be pretty tortuous, and the callout that says "Have you tried chatting with us instead?" reads like a taunt when the agents are all offline.
Do you have to pay taxes on your winnings? As we say in New York City, "You should be so lucky." If you net more than $600 in a calendar year, expect Uncle Sam and Albany to come for their taste and add to the NY Sports Betting revenue. FanDuel New York will sent you a 1099 in plenty of time for you to file with the rest of your return.
FanDuel Sportsbook New York Review
FanDuel New York gives the online bettor a lot to like, with its easy to use interface, responsive and secure software and the ridiculous amount of options in their Same Game Parlay features. It's also a must-have if you like to shop around on football odds, as their lines frequently outpace the competition on the spreads, totals and moneylines. And hockey fans are going to love to place live bets on games they can stream through the service.
But there are drawbacks and they're real. The customer support isn't great with its mazes of FAQ files and long waits for a response from a rep. If you value customer service, you may have a better experience with sportsbooks like BetMGM NY. Additionally, depending on how you like to bankroll your accounts, you may find their banking options inconvenient. And if basketball is the only sports betting market you regularly play, you may be happier with the lines someplace else.
